Amazingly, when I first started this website a couple of years ago, I could not find any Sustainability events to go to. Now we have a wealth of interesting, informative events and it is often difficult to choose.
What a difference a little time makes....I call that progress.

September 2 - Nob Hill Growers' Market - NM Native Chile Week. Join us for our second tasting of the season. Learn about ways to prepare chile and sample chile from our own AJ Farms.

September 4-6 - 23rd Annual New Mexico Wine Festival at Bernalillo -Live entertainment and 20 or more New Mexico wineries will be present. There will be free wine tasting and wine available for purchase by the glass, bottle, or case.
September 8 - Agriculture Collaborative Meeting - Foodies on the Web - Growing Your Marketing Strategies with Internet-Based Media. Meeting will cover internet-based technology including: Facebook, You Tube, Twitter, Blogging, Website Design basics, Podcasts, and E-newsletters. September 11 - Edible Plantscapes - 12 Years at ecOasys High Desert - This inner-urban household conversion to radical sustainabilty/subsistence horticulture involves worldwide collections into seedbank and nursery propagations of a threatened and unique selection of high and dry-land adapted edible plant species and varieties, including fruit, nut, berry, herb, and vegetable. September 11-12 - The Solar Fiesta at Menaul School this year, 10am-5pm is the largest annual event presented by New Mexico Solar Energy Association. "What a Bright Idea!" It connects green-minded folk with businesses, schools and other organizations focused on sustainable industries, fulfilling our mission to promote clean, renewable energy and sustainability in New Mexico through education, empowerment, collaboration and advocacy.

Bernalillo County Open Space in coordination with the Hubbell House Alliance is offering a series of FREE workshops that will focus on how to transform your backyard into a thriving urban oasis of food, medicine and wildlife habitat. All the workshops will be held at the Gutierrez-Hubbell House located at 6029 Isleta Blvd, 3 miles south of Rio Bravo Blvd. Registration starts at 9:30am and the sessions go from 10:00am-4:00pm on the third Saturday of the month, minus June and July. The Local Lunch Forum isorganized through the South Valley Economic Development Center, visit them at www.svedc.org

September 18 - 3rd Annual Urban Farm and Harvest Festival, The Albuquerque Open Space Division presents A Celebration of Open Space, Urban Agriculture, Local Food, and Community. 10-4 6500 Coors Blvd NW between Montaño and Paseo del Norte at the end of Bosque Meadows Rd.
September 25- Preserving the Harvest: Lacto-Fermented Foods - Lacto-fermented foods are raw foods full of enzymes and vitamins. Learn the old-fashioned way of preserving vegetables and dairy at Sunstone Herbs. 10AM-2PM

September 26 - Herbal Farmacy - Herbalist, Jen Prosser, teaches what plants to use for what ailments, how to grow them, and the different ways to process them. Farm tour at 9:30AM and class starts at 10AM.
October 1 - Fall Gardening: Fall planting for fresh vegetables throughout the winter, and preparing for next year with composting and sheet mulching with Zoe Wilcox. Albuquerque Backyard Farms Collaborative
October 2 - Free Annual Permaculture Gathering At La Resolana in Edgewood - This free permaculture gathering will include a site tour of rainwater cisterns, gravity as a resource, woodchip berms, swales, sponges, and tools. La Resolana is the new name of this place in Edgewood. La Resolana is a place on the south side that harvests the sun and is shielded from the wind: a fertile place for dynamic sharing, creative thinking, and dialogue for what is possible.

October 8-9 - Heritage Farm Annual Harvest Event - Food, Music, Colcha embroiderers, Quilters, Tractor wagon rides and More. Demonstrations will include making apple cider, a farrier trimming hooves and talking about horse foot care, a beekeeper opening a hive and talking about why bees are important, and everything you want to know about urban chickens. More on times later. The Heritage Farm is at Albuquerque's Rio Grande Botanic Garden.
October 9 - Building Hoophouses at Gardenshare - Since 2003 this neighbourhood network of backyard gardens has been pioneering urban wastelands. Our latest suffered through salting with "treated garden manure" which turned out to have come from a local dairy. Restoration is through leaching, grain pasture for chickens, and hoophouses for year-round growing. Come learn what is possible.
